There are 27 different sturgeons species and each species has ist own challenges to be raised in captivity. Producing sturgeons in aquaculture was considered twenty years ago as difficult or impossible. Broodstock in captivity did not exist, supply of embryonated eggs was very limited, spawning conditions were unknown, sperm and egg collection, fertilization and hatching procedures were difficult and feeding the larvae in the nursery phase brought high mortalities. Sturgeon reproduction and feeding the larvae is still until today exclusive know how and professionally executed ( with low mortalities ) from only a few experts in the world. Some of the best are shareholders in ICC S.A.
